Vietnam Top Gear tour day 11 - Hanoi City Tour
Today was the last official day of the tour and our last day together as a group.
Most of the group juped in a bus and headed off to see some of the Hanoi landmarks - first of which was the war memorial. With so much to see outside I was a bit disappointed that I ran out of time to see the rest inside the main building.
I've highlighted some of the plaques that were beside the displays as it really shows the pride and patriotism that the North Vietnamese had during the war. Its hard to imagine that they were fighting against their own people (the South Vietnamese under the rule of the USA) to take back control of their own country.
After years of foreign rule by the French, Chinese, Japanese and the US - it took the destruction of so much of their country and the loss of so many thousands of lives to take back control and reunify North and South Vietnam as a single country.
After the war memorial we headed to the infamous Train Street - much adored by Instagrammers and TikTokers from all around the world. Its one of those "must do" things in Vietnam and is definitely an experience - as long as you don't mind waiting for over an hour in a crowded, hot and humid laneway crammed in like sardines and being constantly bombarded by street vendors trying to sell you overpriced crap.
All for less than 2 minutes of a train passing by inches from your legs.
We then headed to the "Hanoi Hilton" - a prison and prisoner-of-war camp. There is no commentary for this stop.
From here it was back to the hotel for one last night stay and to say our final farewells to the group. I headed out to find some more hidden cocktail bars and tried to find a perfect whiskey sour but more about that next time.
