Vietnam Top Gear tour day 12 - Walking Around Hanoi

My last couple of days in Vietnam, just walking around Hanoi and taking in the sights, sounds and smells.

Hanoi is unique - I've never seen anything like it. Its hot and dusty, crowded and noisy, horns constantly blaring, people constantly on the move and nothing stands still - but turn a corner and its incredibly beautiful and tranquil. Flowers burst from every corner, people start their day with dancing and exercise, tai-chi and meditation and the way that the modern world sits alongside the ancient just works. Somehow it all just fits together and everyone gets on with their day (and night) seamlessly.

I once referred to Hanoi as an Alice in Wonderland fever dream - its hard to describe but if you can ever get there, you'll understand instantly what I mean. I'll miss Vietnam, the group of friends I met on the tour and the local people. I'll miss the food and the spectacular scenery. I'm almost certain I'll be back, theres just so much more to see and do. Maybe next time we can do a luxury train journey from bottom to top.

Big thanks to Vietnam Motorbike Tours for making it possible and thankyou to my amazing wife Danni for letting me go off on a crazy motorbike adventure while leaving her behind.
